Xitter Embed

Rich embeds for Xitter posts. Paste a post link in Discord, Telegram, Slack, or another chat app after swapping the instance's host for this one. Crawlers get the card. Browsers are sent back to the original post.

What a card can include

Post text, the author, likes, reposts, replies and views, a quoted post, and a poll when the instance's API sends one. Several photos are stitched into one mosaic. A video plays inline when a media session is configured. Add ?embed=1 to preview the card in a browser, or open a sample card.

What you configure on the instance

Create a read token at /account/api and set it as XITTER_API_TOKEN. Xitter's public API will not return a post without one. Media files live behind a sign-in cookie, so inline video and mosaics of every photo also need XITTER_SESSION (the auth_token of a dedicated account). Without that session, chat apps get the instance's public preview of the first image only.

Stock Xitter does not return polls, translations, community notes, or article bodies on /api/v1. Polls are rendered if a post object includes them. See the README for deployment.
